Perforated Eardrum Symptoms & Treatment

The other name of eardrum is tympanic membrane which is a slim layer or wall that detaches your outer ear from your middle ear. The eardrum is designed to quiver when sound waves attain the membrane. The eardrum is also there to defend the middle ear from different types of bacteria. It is medically proved that if the eardrum is pricked then bacteria can frequently get into this part of the ear and due to this ear infection is occurred.

If an eardrum perforation is occurred by a loud noise then it might lead to ringing in the ear which is known as tinnitus along with the impermanent hearing loss. Usually this type of hearing loss recovers over time and the ringing in the ear which is normally goes away in a few days. The position of the perforation in the ear can also distress the level of your hearing loss. A stern loss of hearing can take place after a skull crack which interrupts the bones in the middle ear.

It is possible to perforate your eardrum in the following ways:

  • With a cotton mop or other foreign object.
  • By hitting your ear with an open hand.
  • After fracture your skull and after a loud noise or blast.
  • From an ear disease.

There are many symptoms of a perforated eardrum such as an earache or ear pain, or a abrupt decrease in ear pain followed by drainage of fluid from the ear, hearing loss, or ear noise, buzzing or ringing. Always remember that if you have any of these symptoms then you must visit a doctor for treatment.

Generally a perforated eardrum will cure by itself within about two or three months. You may be given antibiotics from your doctor to prevent the ear from becoming contaminated or to treat a presented ear contagion. Your doctor may also be given to you pain killers to diminish any ear pain. Infrequently a paper patch is placed over the eardrum to cover and defend it until the membrane cure. It can take a not many patches before the perforation totally cure. Always remember that if the eardrum does not ultimately cure on its own then the surgery called tympanoplasty can be considered necessary to fix it. You should always remember that when your eardrum is curative then you must keep it clean and dry.
