Encephalitis Information
Encephalitis can occur in people of all ages around the world. Encephalitis is totally different from meningitis because meningitis is an inflammation of the layers which cover the brain. There are two primary types of encephalitis which is acute viral encephalitis and post infectious encephalitis. Acute viral encephalitis (AVE) occurs from a viral attack on the brain. In fact post infectious encephalitis (PIE) is an autoimmune state. In autoimmune state the person's immune system attacks the brain after a viral infection has taken place somewhere else in the body.
The range of the symptoms of encephalitis is too wide due to its rate of progression. The symptoms may also be related to those of other conditions which can usually make definite diagnosis tricky. Encephalitis may be start with influenza like sickness or a headache. The more somber symptoms will pursue later and will show an altered or lowered state of awareness. These symptoms are such as mystification, tiredness, seizures, hearing loss and coma. Some other symptoms can be an aversion to bright lights, the incapability to talk or manage movement, sensory changes, rigidity of the neck and atypical behavior which is depending on which part of the brain is under attack.
There are a lot of viral infections of the brain are secondary to infections that take place somewhere else in the body. For this cause they are frequently accompanied by symptoms which are linked with the other infections and the symptoms for these are lowered blood pressure and other fluctuations in blood circulation, fever, common malaise, headache and delirium. There are many symptoms of a viral infection of the brain such as stern headaches, vomiting, convulsions, mental confusion and dizziness. Always remember that if you have any of these symptoms then you must look for medical help as soon as possible.
It is a quite difficult to treat viral infections of the brain because there are not any definite antidotes for most of them. In a lot of examples the treatment is only to provide support while the disease runs its route. There are two forms of encephalitis disease which is known as varicella zoster virus encephalitis and herpes simplex encephalitis. An anti viral drug which is known as acyclovir is used as treatment for varicella zoster virus encephalitis and herpes simplex encephalitis. |
